About Morton Publishing Company
Morton Publishing was founded in 1977 by Doug Morton out of his home in Denver, CO. Morton was originally a custom publisher but went on to publish best-selling First Aid, Health, Physical Education and Recreation books.
As the company and industry changed, Morton began to focus on lab manuals and photographic atlases for life and physical sciences, and now publishes best-selling titles in anatomy & physiology, microbiology, and general biology, as well as chemistry and astronomy.
Morton also publishes the hugely successful Pharmacy Technician training textbooks endorsed by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA).
Morton Publishing Company’s core business is to identify, develop, market and distribute higher education course materials (tools for active learning) in print and electronic formats. These materials are distinguished from our competitors by our commitment to the quality and production value of our content, our sensible pricing for all customers, and through our attention to building personal relationships with our customers.
Doug began his career as a sales representative for Wadsworth Publishers in 1965 and later became a sales manager for WC Brown (now part of McGraw-Hill). Doug founded Morton Publishing out of his home in Denver in 1977. For more than 35 years, Morton Publishing has held to its founding mission: to create high-quality course materials, sell them at sensible prices, and provide personal customer service.
Upon her husband Doug Morton's death in 2016, Marilyn became the owner of Morton Publishing Company. Doug and Marilyn were married for 29 years. While Marilyn never formally held a position at Morton Publishing Company, she frequently accompanied Doug to industry conventions and on his visits to college campuses.
Marilyn attended Colorado Woman's College and Regis University in Denver. For nine years she was the Director of Personnel at the law firm of Sherman & Howard and after that she was a Legal Administrator for the Denver office for the Chicago-based law firm of Mayer, Brown, and Platt until she retired in 1991.
Marilyn is very involved with many charities and organizations both in the Denver area and in Williamsburg, Virginia.
David has been with Morton Publishing his entire career, and serves as company president and CEO. He graduated from The College of William & Mary and served as president of the student alumni association, where he met Doug Morton, who hired David. He relocated to Denver, becoming the acquisitions editor managing Morton’s growing list of best-selling life science titles. David remains committed to Morton’s core mission.
In his free time, he and his wife can be found driving their sons to their various hockey and soccer games.
Chrissy began her career with Morton Publishing as a nine-year-old, helping her father, Doug Morton, pack instructor desk copies into envelopes and loading them into the family station wagon to be taken to the post office. After graduating from The College of William & Mary, Chrissy began her Morton career and now serves as vice president of operations, managing the growing Morton CustomLab program, the outstanding customer service team, and all of the financial aspects of the company.
In her free time, Chrissy is actively involved with her school board, enjoys spending time at the lake with her family, skiing, and watching her sons’ baseball games.
Carter has been with Morton Publishing since 2006. He began his publishing career in 1994 as a sales representative for West Publishing. Carter transitioned to Addison-Wesley, where he spent 10 years as a sales representative, marketing manager, and acquisitions editor. After meeting Doug Morton, Carter joined the small company environment of Morton Publishing and is proud to be a part of a company that is committed to quality books, reasonable prices, and excellent customer service.
In his spare time, Carter coaches youth lacrosse, skis, cycles, and enjoys spending time in the mountains with his family.
Danielle joined the Morton Publishing team in 2012 after graduating from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. As the Custom Project Editor for Morton, Danielle enjoys working with customers to create, design, and deliver high-quality custom lab manuals. Her creativity and organization skills are an asset to all her customers. Danielle is honored to be part of a company that strongly values producing high-quality materials, outstanding customer service, and treating both customers and employees like family.
In her free time, she loves spending time with her family, dogs, and friends, being outside, cooking, reading, and traveling.
Lee has been with Morton Publishing since 2013. He played Division I hockey and graduated from St. Cloud State University. He began his career with Thomson Reuters, and then shifted to the education field. Lee enjoys working for Morton Publishing because of its exceptional customer service, ability to quickly adapt, and its commitment to producing high-quality materials at affordable prices.
In his free time, Lee enjoys playing hockey and tennis, coaching, and reading.
Amy has been with Morton Publishing since 2017. Born and raised in Colorado, she graduated from the University of Denver in 2015. She began her career at a higher education nonprofit before deciding to make the transition to publishing, and is happy she did. Amy feels very fortunate to be able to work in a small company environment that values commitment to customer service and reasonable prices.
In her free time, Amy loves spending time with family and friends, cooking, reading, and exercising.
Ana has been with Morton Publishing since 2012. She played collegiate soccer and graduated from McPherson College in spring 2011. After graduation she began her career in medical device sales, before transitioning into higher education. Ana is excited to work for a company that demonstrates great service, integrity, and heart.
In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer and spending time with family and friends.
Debbie has been with Morton Publishing since 1987. She graduated from Colorado State University, and began her career as an office manager in a civil engineering firm, until she found Morton Publishing. She loves the small, family atmosphere of Morton and the way everyone works together as a team to produce and sell high-quality products at reasonable prices for the common good of the customers.
In her free time, Debbie enjoys being active, scrapbooking, sewing, cooking, and planning her next big travel adventure.
June has been with Morton Publishing since 2015. She began her career working in New York City at an independent book publisher. After five years, she wanted a new challenge and place to call home, and found both with Morton. June made the move from New Jersey to Colorado and swears it’s the best decision she’s ever made.
In her spare time, June loves to read, write, hike and bake.
Karen joined Morton in 2018. She graduated from the College of Wooster and later earned her M.Ed from Ashland University while working as a high school English teacher. Karen also has experience in retail management. She is excited to have the opportunity to combine her passion for education and business as part of the Morton team and to work for a small company that values active learning and possesses a strong commitment to education.
In her spare time, she enjoys running, reading, traveling and conquering 14ers with her husband and 2 high energy dogs.
Karen joined Morton Publishing in 2012. She has been involved in higher education publishing for close to 20 years. She began her publishing career in 1995 as an in-house sales representative for Irwin Publishing, covering all of Canada. Upon moving to Pasadena in 1998, Karen began a 12-year career with John Wiley & Sons.
Karen has a love of antiques, flea markets, and the thrill of discovering the next small treasure. In her spare time she enjoys the beach, her family, and refinishing furniture.
Kitty has been with Morton Publishing since 2007. She played collegiate basketball and graduated from Eastern Oregon University. She spent the next few years working as a teacher, basketball coach, and personal trainer. While on vacation to the Caribbean she met fellow Morty, Debbie Wittig, who convinced her to apply for a sales position at Morton Publishing. She welcomed the opportunity to join a dynamic company that placed such high standards on customer service and commitment to publishing quality books at reasonable prices.
Kitty loves hiking and fishing in the mountains with her family, and playing a pick-up game of basketball.
Michael joined the Morton Publishing team in 2016 after a long career as our sales representative from EBSCO Media, the company which printed many of our custom lab manuals. Prior to his time at EBSCO, Mike spent much of his career in college publishing, for Harcourt Health Sciences, Pearson, McGraw-Hill. He brings valuable industry experience to Morton, and we are excited to have him on our team.
In his free time, he loves spending time watching his kids play sports, and watching Alabama college sports with his family.
Miki joined the Morton team in 2015. She is a graduate of the Denver Publishing Institute. Her career started with Tattered Cover Bookstore as a Conferences and Outside Events Coordinator. Then, she began traveling the western US as a rep for Arcadia Publishing and History Press. She has a passion for books and is very happy to have found a publishing career in her home state of Colorado.
Miki and her family love to travel, read, go to sporting events, and garden.
Stacey has been with Morton Publishing since 1996. She began her career in 1983 as an assistant to the telemarketing and sales service manager of the small educational publisher the Dushkin Publishing Group. Stacey wanted to work in a similar, small company environment with a real commitment to customer service and reasonable prices. After contacting a former colleague working for Morton Publishing, she was thrilled to accept a position with a company that reflected these values.
In her free time, Stacey loves spending time with her daughter, reading, and entertaining friends.
Thomas has been with Morton Publishing since 2010. He is a Nevada native who graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno. After working for a few large companies, he found his new home at Morton Publishing. Thomas takes great pride in his work and appreciates working for a company that genuinely cares about its customers and products.
Thomas and his wife enjoy the outdoors, training their chocolate Labrador, and being with their friends and family.
Tracy has been with Morton Publishing since 2012. She graduated from the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis. She began her career as a medical lab technologist before moving to the education field working for private trade schools, where she then found Morton Publishing. Tracy is very excited to be working for a company that sells quality books at reasonable prices and where she can use her experience to do two things she enjoys, selling and helping people.
In her free time, Tracy loves being with friends and family and taking her dog to the dog park.
Ruth has worked as a customer service representative for Morton Publishing since 2003. Prior to working with Morton Publishing, Ruth worked for Johnson & Johnson and at a mail order pharmaceutical company.
In her free time, she enjoys building furniture, painting, and doing home improvement projects with her husband.
Sasha joined Morton Publishing in 2018. Originally from Wyoming, Sasha moved to Denver to attend the University of Denver. After graduating in 2008, Sasha then moved to Memphis where she earned a graduate degree. Sasha has worked in many different areas of education and is excited to join a company that promotes learning while maintaining high ethical standards.
In her free time, Sasha spends time with friends and family, reads, goes to the gym, or explores Colorado with her dog.
Heather has been with Morton Publishing since 2009 after meeting Marta Martins in her yoga class. She started with Morton as a sales rep, but her 20 years plus background in customer service called her back and she now enjoys working with Morton customers in the customer service group. Heather has worked with large and mid-sized companies but ultimately loves the small company environment that allows everyone to cater to their customers’ one on one.
In her free time, Heather enjoys spending time with her family. She is also a huge soccer fan!
Marta, a native of Portugal, has been with Morton since 2007. After graduating from the University of Denver with a double major in English and chemistry, she began her career in sales at Fulcrum Publishing. Marta then joined Morton, where she worked in sales before joining the editorial team. She is now a senior acquisitions editor and is excited for the opportunity to select and develop the texts that will be a part of Morton’s future book list.
In her spare time, Marta reads, does yoga, gardens, and travels with her husband.
Adam has been with Morton Publishing since 2009. After graduating from Colorado State University, Adam began his career managing the northern Colorado Hertz location before transitioning into the education field. Adam had long dreamed of joining the publishing industry. He counts himself extremely fortunate to have realized that dream with Morton, a company that really cares about students and instructors.
Adam loves managing the CustomLab program and working directly with instructors to create books that are perfect for their classes. Adam enjoys spending his spare time with his wife and two children, traveling, trying new restaurants, and going to baseball games.
Rayna has worked for Morton Publishing since 2011. She graduated from Colorado State University-Pueblo and then continued her education at the University of Denver Publishing Institute post-grad program. She began her career in publishing working as an associate editor for the publisher of several pharmaceutical and wholesale drug trade magazines before transitioning to her own company where she provided editorial support to various publishers. In addition to serving as an editor and proofreader, Rayna is an accomplished author of books and many newspaper and magazine articles. She is happy that her publishing career finally landed her with Morton.
Rayna loves visiting her family, cooking, reading, watching movies, and cuddling with her cat, Oliver.
Sarah joined Morton Publishing in 2014 after graduating from Middlebury College. Sarah grew up spending time in the pressroom of the local newspaper, a publication operated by her family for several generations. She feels very lucky to be working for a company that is so passionate about providing high quality content to its valued customers.
When she’s not reading or trying out a new recipe, Sarah enjoys hiking and photography.
Trina joined Morton Publishing in 2015. She has experience as a writer, editorial advisor, and product editor for various publications and several books by a local author. She has been working as a freelance proofreader and fell in love with the Morton family. She is excited to be part of the editorial team.
Trina is an athlete, and she is a runner as well as a yoga practitioner.
Will joined Morton Publishing in 2011 after moving to Colorado from the East Coast. He works as the Production Manager, where he designs and typesets laboratory manuals, photographic atlases, and marketing collateral. He loves working for a company where he can generate high-quality products.
He is a master of keyboard shortcuts, which helps him efficiently design and produce Morton’s high-quality books. Will enjoys spending time with his family, doing small home improvement projects, and going to the gym.
Joanne Saliger has been in house with Morton Publishing since 2011. Prior to Morton, Joanne owned a graphics company, producing textbooks, including all of Morton’s books, for almost 35 years.
Joanne has two children and seven grandchildren and spends many of her off-work hours with them. She enjoys reading, cheering on the Broncos, and traveling. Joanne’s hobby is the driving and maintenance of her 1928 Ford Model A Special Coupe.
Amy joined Morton Publishing in 2017. She has experience creating digital and print designs, marketing, project management and graphic support. She earned her BFA in Architecture, with a minor in Fine Art, from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
In her spare time, Amy enjoys photography, rock climbing, snowboarding and driving around town in vintage classic cars with her fiancé.
